Repatterning Hypnosis and Counseling
a contemplative approach to healing
Frequently Asked Questions
What is unique about Repatterning Hypnosis?
Repatterning Hypnosis, founded by Dr. Yana Castle in 2008, is unique as it uses a Buddhist contemplative perspective that includes mindfulness meditation, breathwork, yoga, shamanism, tantra, dreamwork and energy healing.
The philosophy behind Repatterning Hypnosis is based on Tibetan Buddhism's primary tenets of incorporating wisdom and compassion into our lives— wisdom to know that everything we envision is a product of our minds and that we have a choice on how to be in the world. And compassion— to be kind and gentle with ourselves and others and realize that love, forgiveness, generosity, and friendliness are the hallmarks of a healthy mind. The foundation of this work is the belief that we all possess profound, innate wisdom and ultimately know what is best for ourselves. One way to actualize this is through the practice of skillful means—paying attention to our moment to moment experiences, our reactions to things and our thought patterns and through helpful personal visualizations and energy work. Through identifying with a pure essence form that symbolizes our higher nature, we can effectively cut through confusion and bewilderment and develop faith in our awakened, limitless potential. Repatterning Hypnosis also draws on the concept of aligning with 'lungta' windhorse energy (our basic goodness)— our healthy, vital life force.
Along with Buddhist Psychology, Dr. Castle draws on Transpersonal Psychology which might loosely be called the 'psychology of spirituality.' It addresses the search for higher meaning in life and moves beyond the limited boundaries of the ego. Repatterning Hypnosis honors transpersonal experiences (including dreams, peak experiences, various altered states of consciousness, spiritual awakenings and transformative experiences, Extraordinary Human Experiences (EHE), spiritual emergencies, near-death experiences and past lives recall).
How does Repatterning Hypnosis work?
In a safe environment, we travel to the source of your issue—its root cause—by connecting with your subconscious mind where all emotions, memories and patterns of behavior are stored. You may see pictures, have feelings, sense a quality of energy. Understood that often these sources of pain may have once played a protective role but perhaps now they are outdated in need of revisioning. Through the 'repatterning' process, you are able to untangle, release and transform sluggish, outdated thought patterns, unhelpful imagery, behaviors and limiting beliefs often originating in childhood. Your healing and renewal is the intention of this work. Results are cathartic and life-changing.
What are the benefits of hypnotherapy?
Some of the benefits of Repatterning Hypnosis include: a balanced integration of body/mind/spirit and a renewed connection to one's spiritual practices/path, resolution and relief from anxieties, worries, fears and phobias, a noticeable increased sense of calm, self-esteem, courage, relationship enhancement and acceleration of personal development, increased performance, improved interpersonal communication including public speaking, sharpened mental abilities, improved attitude, study skills enhancement, improved mood stability and motivation, and a strong sense of accomplishment.
What can I expect from the first session?
During our initial session, we begin to get to know each other by discussing your issue... what you would like to work on, what you are currently experiencing— how your issue is affecting you physically, emotionally, mentally, energetically and spiritually, how things were for you in the past and what you would like to see for yourself in the future. We set up a schedule to address the specifics of your issue and their resolution. Instructions in various tools for change including the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or 'tapping', may also be offered during our first session.
How many sessions will I need?
Five to eight sessions are recommended as they will give you ample time to get comfortable and familiar with the process of hypnotherapy though many clients benefit from longer term on-going sessions. Each one hour session will build momentum so that results—resolution of your issue—are noticeable and integrated.
What are the fees for a hypnotherapy session?
Fees are discussed during a complimentary consultation by phone or email. Sliding scale is available. Appointments are in-office and by Zoom.

Comparing hypnosis to meditation
.... A state of mind where critical thinking is suspended and subconscious layers of the mind are accessed.... make meditation a close companion of hypnosis. Both place people into a state of intense concentration or deep relaxation, work with the subconscious layers of the mind to effect major change, allow hidden memories and emotional patterns to emerge, and guide practitioners or clients toward a particular goal.
The main difference between the two, as Ormond McGill suggests, is that meditators still the mind to allow the divine to unfold from within while hypnosis clients intentionally program their subconscious.

For so many years I have put off having a relationship out of just plain fear about getting close to someone. You helped me break through this and now I am less shy and fearful and much more open and confident.

Dr. Castle has been mentoring me for three years. When I began with her I was a shadow of what I am today. I was depressed, had an eating disorder and no confidence. She worked on helping me with underlying causes of my lack of self-esteem through hypnotherapy. She also helped me develop a path for self-improvement based on my passions and interests. I feel so much stronger these days, a huge improvement from when I began with her. I highly recommend her as a personal mentor and hypnotherapist. I am so lucky to have found her!

With incredible sensitivity, skill, and love, Yana led me into a hypnotherapeutic state that brought hidden reservoirs of insight and strength into my conscious awareness. Throughout our session, I had the distinct feeling that Yana was transmitting the shamanic wisdom of our ancestral mothers.
